WHAT TO DO IF YOU FIND A STRAY

BVCR cannot take in stray cats for legal reasons and these must be taken either to the RSPCA or your local pound.  The owners of stray cats may be frantically searching for them and they will be checking RSPCA and pound websites in case their beloved pet is turned in.  Where possible BVCR does take cats and kittens from the pounds when space permits.  If a cat has turned up at your place out of the blue and is in good condition and friendly then there's every chance that it's not a stray and actually belongs to someone in your vicinity.  Remember that a cat can stray up to 5kms in a night and many that are allowed to roam at night or even during the day, develope a kind of MacDonalds stop routine where they call into various places and con the inhabitants out of food.  If you're not looking to take total and continuing responsibility for a cat then don't feed it to start with.  If it looks lost and you can provide a safe haven for it then by all means take it into your home and then search for any possible owners.  Put up flyers around the neighbourhood, at local vet surgeries, notify the local council, list it (preferably along with a photo, because descriptions only can vary widely) on the RSPCA lost and found website and place a found ad in the local newspaper (these are generally free).  Take it to your local vet and have it checked for a microchip.

SURRENDERING YOUR CAT OR KITTEN

Please complete the following application if you've exhausted all other options for your companion.  I cannot guarantee that space will be available at the shelter to give your companion refuge at this time, but at least if I have all the relevant information I may be able to help find someone who can.

The following surrender fees apply to help to cover at least some of the costs involved with finding a new and permanent home for your cat or kitten.

Male cats $85          Female cats $110.

Bear in mind that I have to pay for desexing, vaccinating, microchipping, worming and flea treatments, not to mention food, litter and housing for however long it may take.  By completing this application you are agreeing that you are willing and able to pay the above fees upon surrender of your cat or kitten.

Thank you for filling in this application and I'll be in touch as quickly as possible.
Thank you for contacting us. We will get back to you as soon as possible
