SHELTER HOURS

The shelter is open 7 days per week, 24 hours per day, 52 weeks of the year. If you would like to visit and meet any of the cats and kittens available for adoption please call Louise on 07 5426 4147 for an appointment.

IF YOU'RE PLANNING ON SURRENDERING A CAT, KITTEN OR LITTER OF KITTENS PLEASE BE AWARE THAT A SURRENDER FEE APPLIES TO HELP IN A SMALL WAY WITH THE COSTS OF VET CARE AND REHOMING. THE FEE IS $50 PER CAT/KITTEN AND $100 FOR A LITTER OF KITTENS.

DONATE TO SAVE A LIFE TODAY

Even the smallest donation can help to save a life and pay for much needed food and veterinary care for a stray, injured or abused cat or kitten. The shelter receives no funding and is entirely reliant of the generosity of people just like you who care about the safety and wellbeing of all animals.

CANDID PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Well it looks like Camilla found something to laugh about this week!!!!

KITTEN OF THE WEEK

Young Boots was born around 3 June 2010 and he's been neutered, microchipped, vaccinated and wormed ready for his new home. He gets on well with children, other cats and dogs. Boots is available for adoption for $150. If you'd like to meet him please contact his foster carer Anne at Coolana near Ipswich email:starland_57@hotmail.com or phone her on 5426 8961

CAT OF THE WEEK

Felix is around 14 mths old and is a classic black and white. He's been neutered, vaccinated and microchipped ready for his new family. He's used to other cats and gets on well with the dogs at the shelter.

NEW HOMES URGENTLY SORT

Due to high veterinary costs associated with 2 older cats a rescuer in the Gympie area urgently needs to find loving permanent homes for the above three cats. Skitty the ginger male is only 17 mths old. Billy Bob and Isobella are brother and sister and only 6.5 mths old. Please go to the Private Adoptions page for additional information and Shannon's contact details. Please check with Shannon as she may well be prepared to deliver to ensure the cats find good homes.

KITTENS DUE TO BE DESEXED IN LATE AUGUST

The scary part is that we are now at the beginning of what proved last year to be the big danger period for cats and kittens in the lead up to XMas. The difference this year is that the shelter is starting this danger period already at capacity.

PLEASE HELP WITH A DONATION, NO MATTER HOW SMALL, IF YOU POSSIBLY CAN.

I'm hoping to get all these kittens desexed and microchipped in August. However, this will depend on finances. There are so many cats and kittens in desperate need of rehoming at the present time, that I need to try and rehome the ones currently in the shelter in order to make space available for those in danger of being dumped of put down unless I can take them in.

SPONSOR A CAT OR KITTEN OF YOUR CHOICE

If you find yourself unable to make a long term commitment to have a pet of your own at the present time, then you may like to select a particular cat or kitten and become it's sponsor.  This gives you the opportunity to ensure that veterinary and on going care costs in relation to a particular cat are covered during it's stay at the shelter. There is no minimum or maximum amount required and you can make sponsorship donations weekly, ftgntly or monthly depending on your budget.  There is a section within the donations button once you begin to fill it in where you can select the name of the cat or kitten you want to sponsor.  Once it has been adopted you will also receive a certificate of appreciation.

MY GOALS

BVCR aims to promote responsible cat ownership including microchipping and desexing.

All cats and kittens placed in my care will be found responsible, caring and permanent homes.

No cat or kitten will leave BVCR without being vet checked, microchipped, desexed and vaccinated.

All cats and kittens re-homed MUST be returned to me if there are any problems during the settling in stage.

My one wish is that one day I will no longer be needed.

As I receive no funding and all costs pertaining to the shelter are borne by me personally any donation no matter how small is genuinely appreciated.  There are precious few NO KILL SHELTERS available for cats and an ever growing need. So please consider making a donation to help keep this one going - you never know your best friend may need it some day.

OTHER WELFARE ORGANISATIONS

If you would like to provide a permanent, loving home for an abandoned, surrendered or abused cat or kitten and I have no adoptees currently available please contact any of the following welfare organisations and they will be only too happy to show you any animals currently available:

RSPCA Qld

Animal Welfare Leaque - Qld

Pet Rescue - Shelter Directory

4 Paws Animal Rescue - Sunshine Coast

Little Paws Kitten Rescue

Jaws 'N' Paws Inc

Unfortunately there are so many cats and kittens being abandoned on a daily basis that welfare organisations are being forced to turn away many new arrivals because there simply isn't any room available.  Please help in any way that you can either through donatons or by volunteering your time to help look after the lucky ones who have made it onto the adoption lists.

PROBLEMS FINDING RENTAL ACCOMMODATION

If you are currently trying to find cat friendly rental accommodation please go to the following website and download the available software to make your search easier.

www.petfriendlyrentals.com.au/

To make it more likely that you will find what you're after please follow a few simple rules.

Make sure that you tell your agent that getting cat friendly accommodation is of vital importance to you.

Make sure that you supply references from past landlords, neighbours and your vet showing that you are a reponsible pet owner.

Offer to sign a pet agreement that details the responsibilities of all parties.

Show that you use a cat enclosure to ensure that your cat does not wander and cause problems for neighbours.

Show that your cat is vaccinated, microchipped and desexed.

Remember that many landlords may have experienced problems with damage cause by irresponsible pet owners and if you can show that  you have been a good tenant in the past you have far more likelyhood of success.

The above information is provided courtesy of the Animal Welfare League (Qld).

IS YOUR CAT LOST?

In the unfortunate event that you cat or kitten becomes lost please contact your local pound and leave all relevant details. Also contact the RSPCA and AWL Qld in case they have it reported as found or they may have collected it from a pound.

Other websites to contact are look for my cat and where pets are found

These websites are dedicated to finding lost pets in all Australian states.
